Bawden is a major artist rooted in Essex where he was born and lived all his life.

He is famed for his linocuts and this is a fine example of his work. Bawden's work forms the cornerstone of the collection at the Fry Gallery. This linocut features a local scene near Great Bardfield and the farm shown is the subject of another Bawden linocut already in the galleries possession. This work was acquired with the support of the Art Fund with the assistance of the Esmée Fairbairn Foundation.
