This work is part of Sinclair’s ongoing long-term project Real life which questions the nature of ‘real life’.

By exploring personal and cultural identities he discerns and attempts to strip away perceived, experienced and idealistic structures in order to reveal a basic truth or understanding of the individual and their place in society. His use of neon to convey an idea through the simple combination of colour and text provides a counterpoint to the traditional art forms in the Pier Arts Centre like the drawing, painting and sculpture of Barbara Hepworth and William Scott and balances neatly with the use of contemporary material and techniques employed by Naum Gabo, and the more recent ArtFunded acquisitions by Olafur Eliasson and Gary Fabian Miller.
