Ford is one of the preeminent Welsh artists and this work was created for the 2005 Venice Biennale where Ford was chosen to represent Wales.

The work depicts a lion sitting slumped and dejected made of torn sacking. The head composed of the corners of a sack is immediately reminiscent of the hooded figures taken captive by the Americans in the Iraq war. The words which appear across the lionÂ’s body give evidence of the clothÂ’s original purpose and provide an international sense to the idea of manÂ’s inhumanity to man and beast.
