The painting is like an oversized postcard with the sectional divisions evoking a multi-view seaside postcard.

It is accompanied by another large canvas offering the artist's interpretation of the iconography. The work acts as a piece of ‘history’ painting; or perhaps anti-history painting outlining the impossibility of history painting in our own times with multiple-perspectives caught up in opposing ideologies. The artist has strong connections with the artistic practice in Leeds where he teaches at the University and is the first significant work by Atkinson acquired by the gallery.
