Red House was Webb's first architectural commission and he later collaborated with Morris on much of the decoration and furnishing of the house.

The table is stylistically very close and of the same date as the original pair of tables (now lost) designed by Webb for Red House. The table is on display in the Dining Room and complements the original Webb dresser commissioned for the house to give scale and context to an otherwise denuded interior. This work was acquired with assistance from the Wolfson Foundation.
