As part of Art Night 2017 with the Whitechapel Gallery, the Art Fund Curatorial Practice Workshop, led by Fatos Ustek, will bring together a range of arts and museum professionals to explore together the current issues facing art in the public realm.

The workshop will start with showcasing Art Night 2017, its artistic programme and the spectrum of historical and cultural locations set to activate the east end of London for one summer night on the 1 July. Workshop participants will then be divided into three groups to develop a public project case study and instructed how to use SWOT analysis to identify key insights into each commissioning strategy. It is requested that all participants arrive prepared with a proposed public art project to discuss for this part of the workshop.

The workshop is then followed by a curator-led tour of the current exhibition at the Whitechapel Gallery (4pm to 4.30pm) and the opportunity for workshop participants to attend the symposium ‘Art in the Public Realm’ at the Whitechapel Gallery (7pm to 9pm), featuring a talk by artist Melanie Manchot, followed by a panel discussion with Gareth Evans, co-curator of Estuary Festival; Sam Wilkinson, co-founder InSite Arts; and Fatos Ustek, Curator of Art Night 2017.
