Workers (Leaving the Factory)

Nancy Davenport, 2008

Davenport's photography-based work explores themes including globalisation, labour, truth and fiction. This work was commissioned for the 2008 Liverpool Biennial and is part of her evolving series ‘Workers’ which commenced in 2004 and transforms for each new exhibition. It was created at the Jaguar car plant, Halewood, Merseyside. The central part, a single-screen projection, concerns arriving at and leaving the factory. The second element, on six monitors, features the workers’ tea break. It is an animated hybrid of video and photography, key to Davenport’s practice.
