William and Mary walnut writing desk
Unknown artist, late 17th–early 18th century
Fall front writing desk with three drawers under the fall inlaid with boxwood fleur de lys. Secret drawer incorporated in the cushion moulded cornice. In 2004 the Art Fund completed its first fully comprehensive audit and in the process discovered a small number of previously unrecorded items including this work. The works had formed part of larger collections presented through the Art Fund and the museums concerned did not report their details to us at the time they were donated.
