Whitelands May Queen's cross

Arthur Severn, 1893

The design of this cross is based on th ehawthorn, which is also sometimes known as may blossom. It belongs to a series of works commissioned annually by John Ruskin to present to the May Queen at Whitelands College. The cross was included in the V&A's exhibition 'The Cult of Beauty' during 2011.
