Virgin and Child
Pietro di Nicolo da Orvieto, 1400–1425

This work shows the influence of Simone Martini in Sienese painting which persisted into the 15th century. The dress is freely ornamented with gold and the Virgin wears a black mantle lined with red over a green head-dress, with a green-edged red robe. The Child wears a purplish-red mantle lined with grey over white.
