The graceful Madonna is seated on a bank of clouds with emerging winged cherub's heads on either side. She looks tenderly downwards towards the Christ Child who stands beside her and places her arm protectively behind him. It was the model for a larger wood carving in the church of St Martin's in Heers, Belgium.
