Two series of 5 drawings, studies for oil paintings: 1) 'The Road to Ruin', signed and dated 1879 (should be 1878) including no 1 depicting a group of six men seated around a table and playing cards at a college in Cambridge (main illustration) and no 3 The Arrest depicting a domestic interior with two policemen carrying bowler hats presenting a warrant to a man smoking a cigar standing by a fireplace; 2) 'The Race for Wealth', (circa 1893) including No 1 In the Spider's Office depicting a scene in a financier's office, with the financier in the centre surrounded by people seeking his attention.
