Thistle cup

Hugh Ross I, 1700–1710

A silver cup with applied fluting below a ribbed girdle, a plain foot and ribbed S-shaped handle. The initials AS and MF are engraved above the girdle. The maker's mark of HR is struck on the base. This is a rare and significant early example of Tain silver and only three cups by this maker are known.
