Art Funded by you

The Young Trio

Edward Villers Rippingille, 1820

The artist, a pupil of Edward Bird, immediately follows Francis Danby in the quality and significance of his work in the 1820s to both the Bristol School and to British art as a whole. He is best known for his narrative and genre paintings, but also for group portraits at which he excelled. This painting underlines the links between continental painting and the Bristol School of the 1820s, these stylistic connections only previously being clearly implied by Francis Danby's Bristol landscapes.
