The Watson Mazer

Unknown artist, 1500–1525

© Trustees of the National Museums of Scotland

A Scottish drinking vessel, this is called a 'standing' mazer because the maplewood bowl is raised a few inches on a silver stem and foot. The stem in this example is trumpet shaped, beaten out into flattened lobes, and engraved around the foot.
