The Savernake horn

Unknown artist, 1325–1350

Hunting horn, with 3 silver bands and mouthpiece. The internal band has 16 hawks preening themselves and the upper band depicts a king, bishop and forester. The horn has a leather baldric, with silver mounts and enamelling. The horn is European, 12th-13th century; 2 upper bands are British, 14th century, mouthpiece and 3rd band 18th century; baldric is probably Scottish, 1312-1347.
