Art Funded by you

The Noble Chalice

Unknown artist, c. 1250

The broad shallow bowl is supported by a short stem and a bold knop of writhen design, between two bands of hatching. The foot with repousse lobes spreads out on to a moulded rim. An example of early Gothic design in its conception of forms and attention to detail.
