The Ministry (Health and Education)
Langlands & Bell, 2002
The design of the carpet is a non-repeat pattern in 5 sections produced using 22,000 cards. Every single line of the weave is unique. The design is based on a photograph of modernist architect, Oscar Niemeyer's Ministry of Health and Education in Brazil. The work examines our experience of architecture and the primary urban culture at many different levels by questioning the relationship between the object, the subject and the image in art.
