The Hemp Collection of Seals and Seal- Matrices

Various, 1200–1950

The Hemp collection of over 500 matrices and over 100 wax impressions and heavy wax seals. The majority are armorial though the collection includes emblematic seals, monograms and representations of groups of people. The armorial group includes Royal, ecclesiastical, civic, and personal. Also, Medieval peasant rings. Also, damaged and broken plaster casts of vignettes of the Virgin and Child, and two plain, non-seal, rings. The collection represents all the different types of seal current at different dates, with good examples.
