The mount is decorated with a human head at the centre, a Viking stylistic element, with the arms decorated in acanthus foliage showing Carolingian influence. The mount is cast and chip carved, gilded on the front and with some evidence of tinning on the back. It is related to a group of brooches of the trefoil type, derived from Carolingian baldric decorations and particularly popular in Denmark and Norway.
