The Fairy of the Fountain

William Etty, 1787–1849

A nude woman stands in a stream; her head turned to the right. Her raised left arm holds the branch of a tree. A little lower, a white dove sits on another branch, while on the bank we see a minute Cupid with gossamer wings. Green drapery is suspended on a tree above, against distant blue hills.
