The Bucintoro Returning to the Molo & A Regatta on the Grand Canal
Canaletto, 1730–1735
Two works showing Venice in festive mood. 1) The Doge has just returned from the Lido in his State Barge after the ceremony of the Wedding of the Sea, which was a big tourist attraction of the time; 2) The regattas are recorded from 1300 onwards, both annually during carnival time and in honour occasionally of distinguished visitors.
