The Altarpiece of St Mary Redcliffe, Bristol

William Hogarth, 1755–1756

Altarpiece composed of three canvases: 1) Centrepiece, 'The Ascension; 2) Side piece, 'The Sealing of the Sepulchre, and 3) Side piece, 'The Three Marys at the Tomb'. Not a triptych, the central canvas was hung high over the altar, and the side panels were fixed at right angles to it on top of the screen.
