Tall Bottle

Magdalene Odundo, 2009

© Magdalene Odundo

This elegant long-necked bottle takes the form of an archetypal amphora with a beautifully poised flaring neck. It has been fired in an oxidising atmosphere to give a brilliant gleaming orange/red surface and has the nodules that are characteristic of many of Odundo's pieces. The collection in Aberystwyth specialises in contemporary ceramics and has a particular interest in work by women makers and world ceramics. Odundo's ceramics have been pivotal in the writing and research of the collection's curator. The Odundo bottle enhances the collection by developing the narrative of interaction between African art, studio pottery and contemporary ceramics.
