Study for a Madonna and Child

Polidoro da Caravaggio, 1520–1540

The paintings on the facades of roman palaces, for which this follower of Raphael was once chiefly known, have perished. This is an excellent example of his drawings, in which he achieved a powerful union of realism and monumental grandeur.
