Sky Base
John Hoyland, Jack Smith, late 20th Century

These two paintings, 'Sky Base' by John Hoyland (pictured) and 'Dialogue Fandango' by Jack Smith, are important examples of very different abstract painting styles. Hoyland disliked the 'abstract' painter label, describing himself simply as a painter. Before adopting his own abstract style, Smith's earlier works often featured domestic objects, and were known as part of the 'Kitchen Sink' school of realism.
