Sir Watkin Williams Wynn, 4th Baronet & Charlotte Williams Wynn
Hugh Douglas Hamilton, 1772

Sir Watkin Williams Wynn (1749-1789) was a major landowner and a key figure in the social and cultural life of Wales as well as a lavish patron of the arts. He married his second wife Charlotte, daughter of George Grenville, in 1771. They are fine examples of Hamilton's delicate technique capturing a true likeness of the sitters as well as their characters. National Museum Wales aims to acquire works reflecting the history of patronage and collecting in Wales. These works offer a more vivid and intimate picture of the Williams Wynns, and complement the grand paintings by Reynolds and Batoni already in the collection.
