Silver Matrix of a seal

Unknown artist, 13th century

Silver Matrix of a seal of English work, set with a jasper intaglio of horseman, with letters N H ; legend: - 'Quae tibi lego lege.' This work was donated by Max Rosenheim who presented over 170 works to the British Museum through the Art Fund between 1904 and 1911. Max Rosenheim was a financier and part of the Executive Committee of the Art Fund from its inauguration. He was a well known collector of engravings and medals and also Trustee of the British Museum.
