Art Funded by you

Self Portrait

Honoré Daumier, 1863–1866

© National Galleries of Scotland

The Scotsman wrote, 'though small in size, it is important in the only real sense - that is in conception and style. It is exceedingly simple in its elements and is in colour chiefly a harmony in flesh colour, grey, brown and black. The colour subdued though it be is richly modulated; the whole is pregnant with a feeling of mystery that fascinates and haunts.'
