Reliquary

Unknown artist, 1500–1600

Reliquary (Spanish or possibly Italian) of rock crystal with gold mounts enamelled in various colours. Arched structure on a pedestal with elaborate scrollwork. Inscriptions on the inner reliquary : MARI and IHS. Also describing the contents, namely part of the tablecloth from the last supper and part of the Virgin's robe. The whole reliquary is surmounted by a naked boy.
