Pot

Svend Bayer, 1946-

Svend Bayer was an apprentice to Michael Cardew at his pottery in Wenford Bridge, Cornwall. Bayer works in an essentially traditional manner, producing robust vessel forms thrown on the wheel. He is particularly noted for his use of the wood-firing technique and is a master of kiln building. This large jar is a good example of the vigorous yet elegant nature of his work and the rich and lustrous surface is the result of five days of wood firing.
