Portrait of Oliver Cromwell

Edward Mascall, 1657

This half-length portrait of Cromwell in brown robes with a white collar is believed to be that referred to by George Vertue in 1722 as being in the possession of the Duke of Chandos. It was bought by him from one Wisker Clark, once Mascall's servant, who had married the artist's widow.
