Portrait of George Augustus Herbert, 11th Earl of Pembroke

George Augustus Herbert of Wilton, Wiltshire (1759-1827) was the only son of the 10th Earl of Pembroke and Lady Elizabeth Spencer. Herbert was a near cousin of Lord Fitzwilliam, the founder of the museum, and became principal heir to his estate on the latter's death in 1816. He is shown in regimental uniform, red jacket unbuttoned, showing white shirt underneath in an oval frame.
