Portrait of Charles, Third Duke of Queensberry (1698-1778) was appointed Privy Councillor by George I, and Admiral of Scotland by George II. The Duke quarrelled with George II over the refusal of a licence for Gay's 'Polly' and relinquished his appointments. However, he returned as Privy Councillor under George III and was appointed Keeper of the Great Seal of Scotland.
