From 1912 to 1936 Bernard Walke was the priest and vicar in charge of the parish of St Hilary on the shore of Mount's Bay near Penzance. He had High Church tastes, (something his parishioners did not share) and was a great lover of the arts and a friend of many of the Newlyn and Lamorna artists, among them Laura Knight. Under Walke's auspices, St Hilary's Church was decorated with works by many artists.
