Orbit presents an image of contemporary urban China. The dynamic composition and sheer scale of the work give it an overwhelming presence with jewel-like detail. BeijingÂ’s frantic urban pace is depicted in the cyclical flow of traffic and pedestrians. Xiaochun is one of the modern masters of digital manipulation, his approach rooted in the traditional Chinese art of scroll painting. Birmingham and Walsall art galleries are working together to build up a collection exploring the metropolis and urban environment under the Art Fund International scheme. This work was presented by the Art Fund through Art Fund International and helps to build up the galleries' collection of new media.
