Art Funded by you

Nine drawings

Alastair Morton, 1938-1962

Alastair Morton was an artist and director of the family textile business, Morton Sundour Fabrics Ltd of Carlisle. Under the Edinburgh Weavers brand he is responsible for some of the most innovative fabrics of the 20th century. Among the artists he commissioned to design textiles were Ben Nicholson and Barbara Hepworth. Morton’s own art was heavily informed by the British Modernist movement and the influence can be seen in these nine abstract drawings. These now join five garments made from fabrics designed by Morton in the collection of the Harris Museum.
