Art Funded by you

Mrs Box

Dora Carrington, 1919

Carrington met Mrs Box, a farmer's wife, while on holiday at Welcombe in Cornwall and this portrait gives an honest depiction of a Cornish working woman. Carrington attended the Girl's Grammar School in Beford and it was here that she excelled in art which prompted her parents to permit her to enrol at the Slade School of Art.
