Moonrise, Painswick, 1915
Philip Wilson Steer, 1915
This artist was born in Birkenhead and the city's Williamson Art Gallery asked the Fund's help to acquire some of his works. In Moonrise, Painswick, the moon, appearing towards the centre of the picture, illuminates a slightly wooded landscape, with striking effect. A winding pathway leads through the centre of the composition. The grant was for four paintings and seven drawings.
