Miniature portrait of Mrs Piozzi
Unknown artist, 1811
Mrs Thrale's friendship with Dr Samuel Johnson began in 1764 and ended with her marriage to Gabriel Piozzi in 1784, 6 months before Johnson's death. Lord Kenyon bought this work and others of her circle, with a view to finding appropriate homes for them, and disposed of the miniatures at the same prices that he paid for them.
