Memorial brooch and Ring

Unknown artist, 1836–1850

1) Ring commemorating the death of Hannah, wife of Nathan Meyer de Rothschild. The ring is segmented in the form of a snake, with black enamel on gold and a yellow sapphire on the head (main illustration). 2) Brooch commemorating the death of Nathan Meyer de Rothschild, founder of the London firm of that name and financial agent to the Government during the Napoleonic wars. It is lozenge shaped and contains a round agate in a snake setting. One of four gifts to three museums by Rupert Joseph through the Art Fund between 1934 and 1941.
