Meeting of Charles V and the Bey of Tunis
Niccolo Dell'Abate, 1570

Owing to the presence of the Hapsburg double-headed eagle and the crescent, and of figures in Oriental dress, it is thought that the subject may be the meeting in 1535 between Charles V and the Bey, Barbarossa, after the siege of Tunis. One of 26 gifts to 19 museums by Sir Alec Martin or Sir Alec and Lady Martin through the Art Fund between 1935 and 1967.
