This wax medallion depicts Robert Southey, Poet Laureate from 1813. Wyon has depicted him in the style of a Roman Poet Laureate, giving him a heroic status. The portrait formed a pair with one of William Wordsworth, who succeeded Southey as Poet Laureate.
