Lincoln from the South

Peter De Wint, 1784–1849

The view is from the Little Bargate (now demolished) looking over the city northwards, with the Cathedral crowning the hill in the background. Trees and park land in the foreground are painted in the artist's usual low tones. We see ruins of the old city gate, and a bridge in rich red brick, with cattle crossing.
