Landscape with Abbey Ruins

Thomas Girtin, 1775–1802

A romantic landscape with rugged foreground in which to the right are seen ruins of a Gothic building. This work is one of seven purchased at the Christie's sale held in aid of the British Red Cross Society. Miss Julia Reckitt donated the sum of £50 and the Art Fund purchased the works and distributed them to seven public institutions including the British Museum, Tate, Birmingham and Manchester.
