Art Funded by you

Iguanagone

Frank Bowling, 2002

© The artist

Frank Bowling is known for his highly coloured, textural, and often large scale abstract acrylic paintings and was the first Black British artist to elected to the Royal Academy of Arts in 2005. This painting fuses abstraction and glowing colour to evoke a non-specific, but deeply poetic sense of place. Iguanagone will link not only to works by other black artists in the Leicester collections, including Ronald Moody, Aubrey Williams and Pogus Caesar, but offer new insights into abstract works by Patrick Heron, Terry Frost and Derrick Greaves. This painting will support LeicesterÂ’s aim of increased representation of culturally diverse artists within the art collections.
