Art Funded by you

Golden City Rome from the Janiculum

Samuel Palmer, 1873

Bought by the Felton Bequests for the National Gallery of Victoria, Melbourne, at the John Varley Sale for 880 guineas. A few days later the family and executors of John Varley, gratified by the action of the Gallery in purchasing this drawing, refunded the purchase money and presented the drawing to the National Gallery of Victoria (Australia), through the National Art Collections Fund, in the hope that their action in making this gift will make another link in the Imperial chain.
