Glenarm, Co Antrim

Henry Gastineau, 1857

Photograph © Ulster Museum

The drawing is a spacious study of the coastal town of Glenarm, seen from the south. In the middle distance are the turrets of the castle, the spire, the chimneys, and the bridge backed by a sea of almost Mediterranean blue, while, beyond the bay, the familiar headlands recede, tier by tier, to the hazy horizon. In the foreground is a wealth of foliage and a variety of peasant figures.
