Elizabethan Costrel

Unknown artist, 1558–1603

A north Italian marbled slipware costrel with egg shaped body, long neck, flared pedestal base and four loop handles, of brown, green and white marbled ware from the Elizabethan period. A costrel is a large bottle with an ear or ears through which a cord might be passed so it could be suspended from the waist.
