Dunfermline Communion Cups
George Robertson of Edinburgh, 1628–1629

Communion cups are undoubtedly the major glory of early 17th century Scottish silver, and indeed they form the majority of surviving examples of the work of Scottish seventeenth-century goldsmiths. The Dunfermline Abbey cups represent a style at once typical and beautiful. They carryover some stylistic elements from the mazers of the previous century, particularly the egg and dart decoration of the feet coupled with a simple elegance and functionalism.
